On January 30th, AGBU Toronto hosted a cocktail reception honouring the newly appointed Republic of Armenia’s Honorary Consul in Toronto, Mr. Van Lapoyan. To celebrate his appointment, AGBU Toronto invited Armenian & Toronto community leaders, representatives of the churches, organizations and schools to introduce Mr. Lapoyan.
Mihran Egavian, Toronto AGBU Chair acted as the m-c for the evening, welcomed all the guests and commented that “these are the events that bring our community together and provide a platform to work closely with each other”.
Invited speakers and guests, Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, Vicar of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church Diocese of Canada, Mr. Ara Mkrtchian Consul General of Armenia, Hon. MPP Mr. Aris Babikian, Councillor Jim Karygiannis, Ms. Arsineh Khanjian, Armen Ontario President Mr. Berge Papazian in their speeches congratulated Mr. Lapoyan and praised him for his charitable work, his love of education and being an active supporter of the Toronto Armenian community & its organizations. Councillor Karygiannis presented the guest of honour with a scroll congratulating his appointment.
Mr. Lapoyan spoke of his vision & objectives in his new position, and his commitment to providing support to the community. In completing his presentation, he expressed his gratitude to AGBU for the evening and also acknowledged the support he received from AGBU when he was a student.
